Patient Services-General Dentistry
Many people experience some form of periodontal disease, often without realizing it. Periodontal disease is chiefly responsible for adult tooth loss, bleeding gums, bad breath, and receding gums. The truth is, it is easily prevented with proper hygiene and home care and with professional treatment. If diagnosed in its early stages, gum disease treatments are easier, less invasive, and more effective than if treatment is delayed. Your visit with Dr. Lawson-Myers includes a complete evaluation of your gums and supportive tissues. At Liguanea Family Dental, you will have access to advanced periodontal therapy to heal and restore your oral health. Every effort is made to keep all your teeth, as this is always the best and preferred solution. In the instance where a tooth cannot be saved, it may be recommended to extract the tooth. This extraction can be done here in our office. To learn more, download our brochure on tooth extractions by clicking here.
In the past, amalgam (silver) fillings were placed into the cleaned out portion of the tooth after your dentist removed decay. With advancements in dentistry, you can now have tooth-colored fillings instead of silver fillings. Tooth-colored fillings are made from a composite resin that looks natural and can be sculpted to match your existing tooth structure. Tooth-colored fillings give your smile a younger, brighter appearance. You may even elect to remove your old silver fillings in favor of new, undetectable tooth-colored fillings.
Nightguards are a simple solution to protect your teeth and jaw from the harmful results of nighttime teeth grinding and clenching. Dr. Lawson-Myers provides you with a moldable plastic mouthguard to comfortably fit over your upper teeth, creating a barrier between your upper and lower teeth. The cushion between the teeth distributes the pressure of grinding. A nightguard reduces clenching, grinding, and TMJ problems by allowing the muscles in the jaw to relax. Rest easy with a good night’s sleep and wake up a new person!
